Every Insparea sketchbook is created through a combination of traditional watercolor knowledge, premium materials, and careful hand assembly. Production takes place in both Ukraine and Germany, where most of the process is still completed by hand to ensure quality and consistency. Our current production capacity is approximately 1,000–2,000 sketchbooks per month.
The journey begins with color. Over many years, I collected watercolor mixing recipes inspired by traditional masters and shared by several renowned watercolor artists. These recipes are carefully adapted into ready-to-use color mixes. We use professional-grade pigments chosen for their transparency, color harmony, and ability to create a wide variety of color combinations. Every palette is tested to ensure balanced, natural, and inspiring color relationships.
The mixed watercolor paints are applied by hand onto a special palette material designed to hold paint without absorbing it. This allows artists to pick up nearly all of the color with a brush, leaving a clean white mixing surface beneath and maximizing the usability of every palette. Drying the palettes under special conditions for a few days to ensure no paint will stick to the watercolor paper.
The palette sheets are cut to size using precision paper cutters. At the same time, premium watercolor paper is cut to the desired format. Front and back covers are prepared and inspected before assembly.
Holes are carefully punched into the watercolor paper, palette sheets, and covers to ensure perfect alignment during binding.
Each palette is sorted according to its theme, whether Landscapes, Portraits, Flowers, or another collection. The palette sheets are then interleaved with watercolor paper so that there are always multiple sheets available between color palettes. This practical layout ensures that if one page is in use or drying, another sheet is immediately ready for painting.
The covers, watercolor paper, and palette sheets are assembled and bound together using a durable coil binding, creating a compact and travel-friendly sketchbook.
An additional protective sheet is inserted between the palette and watercolor paper to prevent paint transfer when the palette is still damp. An aquabrush is added to each set, allowing artists to paint anywhere without extra equipment. Finally, every sketchbook is wrapped in a protective transparent bag to help prevent damage during shipping.
The result is a ready-to-use watercolor sketchbook that combines professional-quality paints, premium watercolor paper, and thoughtful design in a format small enough to travel anywhere. Every sketchbook reflects countless hours of testing, refinement, and hand craftsmanship, helping artists focus on what matters most—enjoying the creative process.
The palette sheets are designed to be reusable. Once the original colors are used, artists can apply their own favorite watercolor mixes and continue using the sketchbook for years. The palette sheets can also serve as a practical color-planning tool. By placing a transparent sheet with a printed black-and-white silhouette of a future painting over the palette, artists can quickly test and visualize different color combinations before starting the artwork. This simple technique makes it easy to explore color harmony, compare options, and confidently choose a color scheme before the first brushstroke touches the paper.
